I have a feeling there will be a few of these combo posts this month. Some are going to be a bit tricky I think, like today’s. The August Break Prompt is “Crush” and the Song Lyric Sunday prompt is “drink.”
My initial thought was for ACDC’s “Have a Drink on Me” but I didn’t know how to combine that with crush. Then I thought of Orange Crush but I didn’t know any songs with that drink in the lyrics.
Finally I decided to take a loose interpretation of the word “drink” and use Foreigner’s “Cold as Ice” since most of the time you will have ice in a cold drink. Thanks to Helen, loose interpretations are permissible 🙂
So as to crush, it is no secret that I have a crush on the current lead singer for Foreigner, Kelly Hansen. We have seen them live several times and one of the most recent times was at the Mountain Winery where we were sitting in the second row, center. Kelly (yes, I call him by his first name) has the habit of going out into the crowd and he actually came and stood right by me! Later he went out farther into the crowd and on his way back he passed by me again and of course I had to give him a hand getting over the seats back to the stage. Maybe I touched his butt, maybe not?
Anyway, here are the lyrics to “Cold as Ice”
You’re willing to sacrifice our love
You never take advice
Someday you’ll pay the price, I know
It happens all the time
Closing the door
You leave the world behind
Yet throwing away
A fortune in feelings
But someday you’ll pay
You’re willing to sacrifice our love
You want paradise
But someday you’ll pay the price, I know
It happens all the time
Closing the door
You leave the world behind
Yet throwing away
A fortune in feelings
But someday you’ll pay
(Cold, cold) (as, as) (ice)
As cold as ice to me
(Cold, cold, cold) (as, as, as) (ice)
(Cold as ice)
Cold as ice I know
(You’re as cold as ice)
You’re as cold as ice
(Cold as ice)
Cold as ice I know
(You’re as cold as ice)
Oh, yes I know
(Cold as ice)
(You’re as cold as ice)
You’re as cold as ice
(Cold as ice)
Cold as ice I know
(You’re as cold as ice)
Oh, yes I know
(Cold as ice)

Here he is climbing back over the seats |
And here he is singing the song:
Interestingly, when I was searching for songs that Foreigner does that include drink of any kind I was hard pressed to find one. They do talk about coffee in Blue Morning, Blue Day but if I’m stretching the prompt of drink, I’d rather stretch it to Cold as Ice :). Hope Helen doesn’t mind.
We are seeing Foreigner in September when they are with Journey and Def Leppard at AT&T Park in San Francisco. Our seats are not nearly as close then but since he travels out to the crowd, maybe, just maybe, he’ll find our seats!
How about you? Any crushes? Like Foreigner? Have ice in your drinks? Love to hear.

Drinks can certainly be “Cold as Ice” and so can someone you are crushing on who has absolutely no interest in you. I love the mash-up here. I like the song even better. Great choice!

Janet,
“Cold As Ice” is my favorite Foreigner song. I keep meaning to try to play along in this meme but have yet to figure out how to work it in. Thanks for sharing and visiting yesterday, my friend! 😉

Anytime, Cathy. The more the merrier I think, especially since not everyone can play every week.

I loved that song (way back when it came out!)! Way to get up close and personal with him. My vote is if you gave it a shot to combine two posts, you get to take all the liberties you want! Plus it’s your blog write what makes your heart sing :-)!

Thanks Shelley! That’s what I was feeling.

Hi, Janet – I like your combo post. A+ for creativity! When I read your two themes, I immediately thought about R.E.M. ‘s Orange Crush (even though the song is about the chemical Agent Orange used in the Vietnam War). Good thing I was not writing this combo post — I would have gotten way off track!
BTW – I LOVED your tease line about touching Kelly’s butt (or not). Very cool!

Hi Donna! Truthfully I didn’t search for Orange Crush as a song and I don’t know R.E.M. much so it didn’t occur to me. My husband laughs all the time about my crush on Kelly and he actually took a picture of him coming so close to me. Thanks for stopping by!

Neil Diamond has been my crush for about 40+ years! So it looks we both got to feature our crushes with SLS this week – both stretching the borders with Ice and Soggy Pretzels LOL! Great choice and I love this version!

Thanks Lydia! Good thing Helen isn’t strict about her rules, right? I was sorry to see that Neil was not going to tour anymore but I definitely noticed him slowing down when we saw him last year. He didn’t have the zip in his step and moved kinda stiffly across the stage. A few months later I read about the Parkinsonism and realized that was why. He sure still has a sexy voice though!

Of course I like foriener,Journey,Pat Benetar…songs of my young and single days-my20s. For crush I pictured a crushed soda can. How about using the words as a verb? Orange doesn’t rhyme so would song writers use it????

Yeah, they would probably not be using orange in a song but you know how the mind works sometimes.
