For Song Lyric Sunday our prompt is “car/cars.” The song that popped into my head first was the Beatles, “Baby You Can Drive My Car” but I don’t like using the first thing that pops into my head.
I remember that Bob Seger had an album out called “Ride Out” a few years ago and that there was a song on the album (are they called that still?) about a car. It is a “deuce and a quarter” but I had no clue what that meant. Apparently it is a Buick Electra 225 which were made between 1959 and 1990. This one is a 1977 version.
She will ride you right
Pick you up about half past nine
We can ride all night
City’s where I stay
Got me a deuce and a quarter, babe
It’s all I got to say
Deuce and a quarter, babe
She’s a Detroit made
Deuce and a quarter, babe
So we can ride in style
Leather on those bucket seats
Carpet double pile
Chrome that takes the moonlight on
Sea to shining sea
You can hear those glass pipes rumble to the statue of liberty
Deuce and a quarter, babe
She’s a Detroit made
Deuce and a quarter, babe
I drove an old farm truck
All the girls they walked right by me
Didn’t even say good luck
Now I ride my 225, they all want to be my friend
I’ll pick you up later tonight now baby
You can wait till then
We have seen Bob Seger in concert a few times and have tickets to a show he had to cancel because he was having neck problems. I hope he gets better and can continue the tour! Here are some scrapbook pages I made from the pictures I took at the concert.
And here is the video of “Detroit Made:”
My first car was a Plymouth Valiant. I named him “Prince” after the Prince Valiant cartoon strip (which truthfully I never read, I just liked the name!)
I thought it was a pretty sweet ride! What was your first car? What song comes to mind when you think about cars? Share and play along if you’d like. It makes Sunday blog hopping so much fun!

Is it just me, or is there some underlying similarities to “car” songs? I really enjoyed this one. Great pick!

Lots of similarities! Makes it hard to come up with something different!

Hi Janet
The first car song that popped into my mind was “Mustang Sally,” by Wilson Pickett. Immediately followed by “Hot Rod Lincoln” sung by Commander Cody. Coming in third, “Radar Love”, by Golden Earring
Thanks for the flash back

Fun post! I had never heard that song before, (I’m not as well versed as you are!!!) but it has a catchy beat to it and fits Detroit. I love the photo of your first car, and that you made scrapbooks about the concert – you’re so crafty! My first car was a rust bucket Honda Civic, you could see the road under my feet as I drove it. Our family had a rusty orange colored Gremlin that I drove when I needed to be sure to get somewhere! Happy trails to you!

Good car song! I hadn’t heard it before.
I like seeing people’s first cars. Mine was an old Ford Falcon I think was a ’64…haha and burgundy. I put big yellow flower power stickers on the sides, in the hopes of making it look cool! π

My husband liked those “boats”. Had them for years. Cranky in city driving but a great ,smooth ride on long highway trips. Bob Seeger ultimate car trip music.
Never had a first car because I never learnedhow to drive but I guess I could say a Gruman (city)Bus

He is a great performer. Really gets into his show, which is probably why he needed surgery on his neck! Thanks for stopping by, Sam.
