Sweet September – 2018 – #SLS Song Lyric Sunday

Our friend Helen has given us the prompt of “Search” for today’s Song Lyric Sunday.  The first thing I thought of was Chicago’s “Searching So Long” but that was too easy.  I wanted to try and get a song from Def Leppard or Journey so I could use some pictures from the concert that we went to last week but my mind was a blank, except for a Foreigner song, but I’ve already used Foreigner in a #SLS prompt so I didn’t want to use them again.

I love the movie Urban Cowboy with John Travolta and Debra Winger.  The soundtrack has some really good songs.  This is one.

The Lyrics:

Looking For Love
Johnny Lee

Well, I’ve spent a lifetime lookin’ for you;
singles bars and good time lovers were never true.
Playin’ a fools game hopin’ to win;
and tellin’ those sweet lies and losin’ again.
I was lookin’ for love in all the wrong places,
Lookin’ for love in too many faces,
searchin’ their eyes and lookin’ for traces
of what I’m dreamin’ of.
Hopin’ to find a friend and a lover;
I’ll bless the day I discover
another heart lookin’ for love.
And I was alone then, no love in sight;
and I did ev’rything I could to get me though the night.
Don’t know where it started or where it might end;
I turned to a stranger just like a friend.
I was lookin’ for love in all the wrong places,
Lookin’ for love in too many faces,
searchin’ their eyes and lookin’ for traces
of what I’m dreamin’ of.
Hopin’ to find a friend and a lover;
I’ll bless the day I discover
another heart lookin’ for love.
Then you came a knockin’ at my heart’s door;
You’re ev’ry thing I’ve been lookin’ for.
No more lookin’ for love in all the wrong places,
Lookin’ for love in too many faces,
searchin’ their eyes and lookin’ for traces
of what I’m dreamin’ of.
Now that I’ve found a friend and a lover;
I bless the day that I discovered
you, oh you;
lookin’ for love in all the wrong places,
Lookin’ for love in too many faces,
searchin’ their eyes and lookin’ for traces
of what I’m dreamin’ of.
Now that I’ve found a friend and a lover;
I bless the day that I discovered
you, oh you;
lookin’ for love in all the wrong places,
Lookin’ for love in too many faces,
searchin’ their eyes and lookin’ for traces
of what I’m dreamin’ of.
Now that I’ve found a friend and a lover;
I bless the day that I discovered
you, oh you; lookin’ for love

Urban Cowboy came before Officer and a Gentleman and Terms of Endearment for Debra Winger and after Saturday Night Fever for John Travolta.  It was a great boost for country music and I remember that a local country bar put in a mechanical bull.

The end of Sweet September is here.  I didn’t post as much as I wanted to but I’m hoping October will be different.  Make sure to visit the other Song Lyric Sunday participants as there is some pretty good music going on out there!

    Super song, and movie! Always liked it, and we had a Johnny Lee cassette tape with this on it. I also remember the SNL skit, too…so funny!

    Remember Eddie Murphy as Buckwheat in Saturday Night Live singing this? “Ookin fo nub…”

    Great song. I think this was part of the resurgence in country music in the Top 40.

    Oh my! Urban Cowboy brings back quite a few memories. I recall it being the end of the school year, and I had a few friends over. We went to see the movie and then we slept out under the stars that night. We may or may not have got into some mischief that night (I’ll never confess!)

    Fantastic song.
