There are SO many songs out there that go with this week’s theme from Helen, Take/Taken that I really had a hard time deciding. Finally I went with one that gives me chills every time I hear it.
Frankie Valli – Can’t Take My Eyes Off You
I can’t take my eyes off you
You’d be like heaven to touch
I wanna hold you so much
At long last love has arrived
And I thank God I’m alive
You’re just too good to be true
Can’t take my eyes off you
There’s nothing else to compare
The sight of you leaves me weak
There are no words left to speak
But if you feel like I feel
Please let me know that is real
You’re just too good to be true
I can’t take my eyes off you
And if it’s quite all right
I need you baby
To warm the lonely nights
I love you baby
Trust in me when I say
Don’t bring me down I pray
Oh pretty baby
Now that I’ve found you stay
And let me love you, baby
Let me love you
I can’t take my eyes off you
You’d be like heaven to touch
I wanna hold you so much
At long last love has arrived
And I thank God I’m alive
You’re just too good to be true
Can’t take my eyes off You
We’ve seen the movie/play “The Jersey Boys” several times and actually got a chance to see Frankie Valli and the 4 Seasons in person when they played at Sonoma State the year our daughter was a freshman. The music was great but we were disappointed that no pictures were allowed and that no standing was allowed! How can you listen to good music like that and not stand? We’ve never been to another show at the college music center because of that. Of course the original “Seasons” are no longer there but the group he has together now still sound great. I want to see him again when he comes to the Mountain Winery because I’ll be able to get some better pictures and get up and dance!
He still looks really good for his age too (which of course you can’t tell from my pictures – LOL). Here’s the video:
I seem to remember from the play that Frankie wanted to sing with an orchestra behind him and when he went out on his own Robert Gaudio and Bob Crewe wrote this song for him. It is one of his biggest hits. As I said, gives me chills every time I hear it, especially when the orchestra comes in strong. If you haven’t seen Jersey Boys, I highly recommend that too. I never knew Joe Pesci had a hand in their story.
Please be sure to visit some of the other Song Lyric Sunday participants. Can’t believe all the different directions these prompts take us! Happy Sunday!

I can remember my sister listening to that song over and over when we were kids. Thanks for the trip down memory lane! š

This topped the charts for a good long time in Chicago, as I recall. It’s a great song now, then it was like “aw geez, not again!”

I get that. That’s one of the reasons I stop listening to the radio. They repeat and repeat. I’d rather have my iTunes shuffle the oldies in once in a while.

The last time we were in Vegas, which was a long time ago, we saw Jersey Boys. Loved it, but have to admit that I never knew much about Frankie Valli before that.

Me either! I just knew I liked his songs. It was a very interesting story don’t you think?

Wow 1967 again! 19 years old. Madly in love, and music like this. What bliss. Thank you.

Perfect for a Sunday afternoon when I’d rather listen than read. You score a 5 for whoever’s keeping score! Thanks, Janet.
