Helen’s word this week is “Last.” Lots of good songs out there but I’m going to go into the way back time machine for this one. “Last Kiss” by J. Frank Wilson. It is a sad song and sometimes makes me cry.
The Lord took her away from me
She’s gone to heaven, so I got to be good
So I can see my baby when I leave this world.
We hadn’t driven very far
There in the road, up straight ahead
A car was stalled, the engine was dead
I couldn’t stop, so I swerved to the right
I’ll never forget the sound that night
The screamin’ tires, the bustin’ glass
The painful scream that I heard last.
The Lord took her away from me
She’s gone to heaven, so I got to be good
So I can see my baby when I leave this world.
There were people standing all around
Something warm runnin’ in my eyes
But somehow I found my baby that night
I lifted her head, she looked at me and said
“Hold me darling just a little while.”
I held her close, I kissed her our last kiss
I found the love that I knew I would miss
But now she’s gone, even though I hold her tight
I lost my love, my life that night.
Here is the original version:
I was surprised a while ago to hear that Pearl Jam did the song also. I don’t usually listen to them but I did like their version too.
Thanks for another fun Sunday full of song, Helen!

Oh, Janet…sorry I just couldn’t listen to more than the opening of both these, as they are too sad. I’ve heard the original, of course, but didn’t know Pearl Jam did it, too.
On another note, we did see Pearl Jam in concert here in town awhile ago. I’d say it was one of the best concerts I’d ever been to. I like a lot of their songs. Their stage set was no frills, just a lava lamp and a couch. It was all about the music & songs. 🙂

I know what you mean, Barbara. I’ll have to give some other Pearl Jam songs a listen. I like the no frills approach too. Less distractions.

I remember that song! It’s so darn sad. I had no idea Pearl Jam did it, but I enjoyed their version, too. Take care!
