Just Jot January – 2020 – Poke

Ever heard the term “Pig in a poke?”  I thought of that when I read Linda’s prompt for today.  I had to look it up and it means buying something without really knowing everything about it.  I try really hard to pay attention to what I’m buying, especially if it is expensive.

I’d have to say that buying our Dodge Journey was like buying a pig in a poke.  I really wanted the car because of the name, Journey, which is one of my all time favorite groups (the Steve Perry years).  We didn’t have much money and so I went online to find a used one, which I did at a dealer near us.  It had been on the lot for quite a while (which in itself should have told me something) but I just used that to try and get a better deal (which I didn’t).

This car had lots of secret hiding places and not much mileage so I thought it was a good bargain.  Unfortunately, it also had some problems that became apparent after we had it for a while – like the habit of not starting occasionally.  I would go out to run some errands and get stuck when I tried to get back.  Of course, most of the time when I called my husband to come and rescue me, it would start right up!  Eventually we got a recall notice about it and there was a problem with something, I can’t even remember now what it was.  We had them fix it but shortly thereafter we got our CRV which I loved.  One good thing is that we got money back on our income taxes that year since I use my vehicle for work and somehow what we got in trade in value was less than what the depreciation was or something like that (a refund is a refund, who cares really why?)

So, got a pig in a poke story to share?

I got Journey is one of my favs out of this. 😊They are my favorite band with and without Steve Perry. I saw them in concert a couple of years ago and they were outstanding. It was a bucket list for me. BTW…I had a Dodge Intrepid years ago that was a pig and a poke. Poked me right in my pocketbook.

I never got to see Journey live with Steve Perry which is a sadness for me. We have seen them several times, once with Jeff Scott Soto and a few times with Arnel. He is close but in recent shows he has been a bit lacking, in my opinion, either they are playing the songs too fast or he looks like he’s just going through the motions. Thanks for stopping by, Lisa! I appreciate it.

I think I may have told you before I’ve had several Chryslers and won’t have another because oil problems with each one? People counter that with their Rams and Durangos, but I’m just sayin, that was MY experience.
Our house is beloved, but within a month of living here we put gobs of money into an unexpected sewer line issue and for a while we lived cautiously, as if we may have purchased a money pit house, pig in a poke home.

My mother had a similar experience with a Dodge.

My husband has a Dodge Ram and has had no problems at all. I should have paid more attention to the info about the Journey. After we started having problems I read that others were too. I have seen a few on the road though so maybe they fixed whatever was happening in the newer models.

  4. I don’t think that I have ever been in a Dodge Journey, but I had a Plymouth Voyager which is probably very similar.

I usually do a lot of research before buying something, but cars are something that I don’t exactly understand. I have never learned about them and I just don’t have the interest so my first car was a complete lemon! 100%! LOL

But for other things, I am constantly reading reviews and looking up things before making a purchase. Right now I am looking for an electronic file for my nails. I’m going to get one from amazon and I have a few that I’ve been eyeing up. They have good stars and lots of reviews which is nice! And they come with lots of pieces and attachments. I have one already, I got it off of Kijiji last Spring, but you can’t really remove the bit to change it out without a GREAT deal of strength. I didn’t ask too many questions I just saw the ad for like $25 and had my brother pick it up since it was where he lived. And he had no idea what to ask either so he just did the money exchange for me. I think I’m going to try to sell it back on the site HAHA get a little bit of money back for it.
