Welcome back to day two of the A to Z Challenge where I attempt to go through the concerts we’ve seen. As I mentioned, we’ve been to close to 150 concerts, mostly since the year 2006 when I won tickets to see Chicago through a local radio station. As you can imagine, it is getting harder and harder to see “new” bands given that my musical preference is for the groups from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. Also, since we’ve been to so many shows, a lot of performers we’ve seen more than once. This abecedarium is about folks we either have not seen before OR that I didn’t write about the last two times I used this theme.
For the letter B I’m writing about the group Berlin. Honestly, the only song I thought I knew was “Take My Breath Away,” from the movie Top Gun. Once they started singing, a couple others sounded familiar. I am not sure if I’d have paid to see them on their own but happily they were the opening act for Pat Benatar and Neil Geraldo, who we have seen lots of times.
It is always fun going to the Mountain Winery and this was no exception. Terri Nunn looked great and I loved her outfit! I’m all about the sparkles you know.

Wish it was a better quality but here’s “Take My Breath Away.” Another reason we like the Winery so much as a concert venue is that it is so intimate. Terri came down into the audience and walked around connecting with the crowd on a more personal level. If you see a guy with long white hair following her, that is Miles, one of the event staff. My husband has made friends with him, especially since his first name is our last name. Enjoy.
As I do when I’m scrapbooking, for each of the shows I’ll include the details:
- Date: August 30, 2022
- Venue: Mountain Winery, Saratoga, CA
- Artist/Tour: Berlin
- Setlist:
- Masquerade
- The Metro
- Touch
- Animal
- No More Words
- Dancing in Berlin
- Take My Breath Away
- She Sells Sanctuary
- Sex (I’m a…)
Pat Benatar put on a good show as well, just so you know. And that’s a wrap for the letter B. I may have given a hint as to who I’m using for the letter C. Can you guess? Make sure to check in on some of the other great bloggers doing this A to Z challenge!

These pictures are great! And The Winery sounds like a lovely venue. I have not been to many concerts, and it boggles my mind to hear you’ve been to so many – what fabulous memories to be able to share! – Best, Torie Lennox

Thanks Torie! The Winery is a great venue. Small enough that almost any seat is a good one.

Hi, Janet!
This time, I’m attempting to leave a comment by following your email link. Maybe it will work. If not, thanks for rescuing it from your junk dungeon.
For the letter “B” in today’s A to Z Challenge, I quickly ruled out “Beastie Boys” 🙂 and expected “B” to stand for “Benatar” or possibly “Backstreet Boys.” Either would have been great, but I am delighted to see that you shined the spotlight on the LA-based Berlin, one of the American new wave/synth pop bands to gain popularity in the early 1980s. Like you, the first and only song of theirs that came to mind was their biggest hit, “Take My Breath Away” from Top Gun. Just now I went to YouTube and looked up their second biggest hit, “No More Words,” a single that approached the top 20 in 1984, and immediately remembered the song and video, because the MTV station where I worked in the 80s aired it often. I like that up tempo song as much as their famous ballad “Breath Away.”
Lead singer Terri Nunn certainly did look youthful, full of energy and downright dazzling as she performed in that show in the summer of 2022. A couple of months from now, she will turn 63. It actually brought tears to my eyes as I watched your video showing Terri working her way through the audience singing her signature song. I was moved by the blissful expressions on all those people’s faces, as if they suddenly felt 40 years younger, swaying and singing along. That video offers proof of what I have aways believed, that music can unite people, bring them together, make peace, generate love and understanding. Oh how we need that in today’s America and today’s world!
As always, you took excellent pictures there at The Winery that evening, and I’m happy to know that Pat Benatar followed with a top quality show of her own.
For tomorrow’s post using the letter “C,” I predict that you will bring us a live event headlined by Chicago.
You and Benny have a wonderful day out there on the coast, dear friend Janet. I’ll see you tomorrow!

Thanks for stopping by dear friend. I feel your words about music uniting people. For the brief few hours that we are there we are truly sharing the love. It is even more effective when the performers walk around with us. You guessed correctly about tomorrow’s feature artist. During the A to Z there are a lot of “new” folks visiting my blog so I have gotten in the habit of checking the trash bin and rescuing the comments so hopefully I won’t miss any of yours. Have a wonderful day!
