Welcome to my A to Z this year where I am covering the theme of democracy. This is your trigger warning. If you are going to be bothered by my descriptions of what I believe America should look and feel like, please stop reading and come back next year when my topic may go back to music or scrapbooking or interesting tidbits. Please respect my space and DO NOT leave disinformation or inflammatory statements in the comments. It’s my blog and I will delete them. Thanks for your cooperation.
C is for Constitution over Cult

It is true that our constitution was written many years ago and has had to have a few revisions over time but the basic principles of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness have always been at the core. We the People is a powerful phrase. It signifies that we work together as a collective and not just blindly following one person or ideal. We have a say in what those changes need to be and we vote to make them happen.
If there is any question about whether a cult has now invaded the country, these words from Representative Troy Nehls shortly after Trump won reelection are pretty cult-like. He said, “If Donald Trump says jump 3-feet high and scratch your head, we should all jump 3-feet high and scratch our head.”
I don’t think there will be too many pictures in this A to Z but I did come across something last night that I think perfectly fits here. I was on my way to visit my daughter who lives in the area around the Facebook/Meta buildings. This is one of the street signs:
I know which direction I’m going.
If you want to see Speaker Hakeem Jeffries’ speech which is where I got the idea for this year’s challenge, you can see it here. Also make sure to visit some of the other participants in this alphabetical endeavor. See you tomorrow!

I’m enjoying what you’re writing about with this challenge theme. It is spot on to today’s chaosβ and a cautionary tale about those who mindlessly follow those who do not have their best interests at heart.
Have you read Cultish? It’s written in a light tone but explains what makes any cult a cult. Very memorable.

I haven’t read that book but I will look into it. It is astounding to me that so many folks can’t see what’s going on. I did read where “drinking the kool-aid” is offensive to some who had relatives that went through the Jim Jones Guyana tragedy so I try to refrain from using that phrase but…

Your post made me think of our dinner conversations the last few weeks. It has been our typical topics. With all the recent political unrest, politics has become a hot topic at school, grade school! My eleven-year-old comes home almost daily with some tidbit of information that they discussed in class, and he likes to talk about it while we eat dinner. My fourteen-year-old and the eleven-year-old go back and forth across the table (not arguing, just discussing). The Canadian election is upcoming, so they have their ideas about who they should vote for (if they were old enough) and why.

That is terrific. I can see now that is it very important to be observant about what is going on and we need young leaders for sure, all over the world.

I am really liking your theme. The truth is If Trump did say jump 3 feet and scratch your head, he would probably say the next day that He did not say it. Then all the people who jumped 3 feet in the air and scratched their head would also say that Trump did not say it

Sadly, you are right about that. He never “know(s) anything about it.”
