Blogging From A to Z – 2018 – H is for

Welcome to the letter H in the A to Z Challenge for 2018.  Each day (except Sundays) I will be taking you through the alphabet with different things you can find in Michaels Arts and Crafts store.  H is for Home Decor.

If you don’t feel you are particularly crafty and you don’t want flower arrangements all over your house, Michaels still has you covered.  I am really in love with these table top water fountains.

There are a few different styles but all are neat I think.  Good for relaxing and meditation…ohhmmm
There was a seaside collection displayed when I was taking these pictures, although there are several different themes throughout the year.

Some pillows on the bottom shelves here and hanging macrame, sea shells and starfish
Some cool clocks and lanterns

Pedestals and different lanterns

A bit of Southwestern here with cacti and message center boards

Wall decor – I like the green mail holder with chalkboard next to the map

More Southwestern Theme

Bicycle Bookends

Pretty jars and serving trays and a wagon wheel!

I need this sign for my craft room!

Even shelves that look like birdcages.

Old fashioned scales and kitchen signs

Don’t forget wine glasses!
I couldn’t get a good picture of this mirror but I think it is so cool.  It says “Happy looks good on you.”  Doesn’t that just make you want to smile?

So you see, you don’t have to be particularly crafty to shop at Michaels.  There are all kinds of things you can use to decorate your home and backyard.  What do you think?  Prefer the seaside or Southwestern feel?  Want one of those waterfalls?  Tell me and make sure to stop by some of the other A to Z-ers.

(Note:  I decided I should add a disclaimer to these posts because I certainly don’t want to give the idea that I am being paid by Michaels to do this or that they are furnishing me with material.  All pictures used in this blog series were taken by me at local Michaels stores, or are my personal pictures and every Michaels store may not have everything shown.)

  1. There are some cool home decor items at Michaels although I usually head there for craft supplies. I have gotten baskets or storage items in the past. Weekends In Maine

I love to look at home decor, but I seldom buy it. I’m plain like that. I like clean surfaces. I hate cleaning pretties. Also, my husband has an aversion to pretties because his mother’s house is covered in them. Our pretties are low in number, 90% heirloom and 10% gift. But see, that’s when I buy home decor stuff, for others, as gifts!

  3. Janet,

Yeah but you’re doing such a great job promoting Michael’s. They should pay you for all this ad time you’re giving them cause you’re definitely planting ideas in people’s brains and next thing you know off they go to their local Michael’s to spend money. 🙂 I like the hurricane lantern. That’s really cool!

I’ve alerted PR at Michaels to the fact that I am doing these blog posts so we’ll see if that does anything. I’m just happy I’m able to find things to finish the A to Z with!

  6. Shopping for décor is fun! I don’t do a lot of it because of budget restraints, but all kinds of cute things can be picked up at Michael’s on sale, and I love to buy seasonal things after the event and put them away to enjoy the next year. I live in the Central Southwest, and have cactus in my yard, so I don’t want more of it in my house, but I do love seaside stuff, then I can pretend I am in my happy place. :-))

  7. This is definitely my favorite section of any store.

  8. This is my favorite part of the store… and the one that can get me into trouble. As my husband and I continue to focus on decluttering, every once in a while something from Michaels or Home Goods or… finds its way home with me.

It surprised me the amount of things there were in this section as I usually concentrate on the paper crafting areas. I’m going to have to get one of the waterfalls I think.

  9. My Michaels (over at Mission Viejo California) had this section, too. This was my ‘child-raising’ style so I confess to buying quite a few pieces.

I think once we get our house settled again (our daughter is moving back home from college for a while) and the backyard cleaned up I’m going to try some new decorating. Right now there is too much going on.

Home decor [anywhere] calls to me. Again I say, your Micheal’s must be larger than ours. We don’t have much in the way of home decor like you showed above, BUT we do have lots of holiday specific home decor items so I’m can’t complain.

Our store is relatively new so it is a bit bigger than most I think. You could get the things online and sometimes there is free shipping. They even ship it to your local Michaels for pickup if you want.
