Suddenly It’s September – 2020

And almost two weeks of it are gone already!  I can’t even describe how our sky has been looking lately because of all the fires.  Add that to the virus and I really have to wonder if we are in a science fiction novel.

Orange glow through the kitchen window
This is the view out the window. The top of the neighbor’s roof. The sun is NOT out, but it is 9 AM.
It’s 10 AM and the lights are still on by the train tracks.
Some of the fires in our state. I live right below where it says “Lifted” in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Staggering numbers.

I took Benny for a walk this morning and now my eyes are a bit irritated. Needless to say we’re staying inside for the rest of the day. The pictures do not even tell the true story. It looks like it is nighttime here. I mean, kinda scary.

On another note, I have been watching our Giants play baseball and it has been very exciting at times. Even though we weren’t supposed to be very good this year, there have been some great comeback wins and the new kids are doing some amazing stuff. I haven’t seen many of the American League games but I have to say that our team has the best fan in the stand cutouts. We have over 15,000 cutouts of people in the seats and it really makes it look like there are fans at the game.

This looks like a full stadium but they are cutout pictures that people have sent in. $99 each and at the end of the season, you can go and pick yours up.

We didn’t order cutouts for ourselves but we did put our name in to possibly get a game ball. Since no one is there to catch foul balls, they are sending five from each home game to random people.

While I watch the game, I color. Sharing for Linda’s Escapist Coloring Club.

Please stay safe everyone!

Beautiful colourings. And the sight from your window looks like it belongs to a scene from a movie.

Stay safe Janet! It looks scary out there…I love the coloring though. I have thought about trying it but I don’t seem to find the time yet. Perhaps one of these days. Glad to see it works for you!

  8. Janet,

Saying prayers for y’all. That’s some kind of crazy scariness going on there. May God’s peace fill your senses and give you the ease needed to get through this living nightmare. Hugs!

It’s interesting, not all the teams decided to do it and some just have cutouts of their own players (past and present) which I think is lame. Some of the other teams are charging a lot of money for them but I think ours is reasonable at $99. They have celebrity cutouts too, like Steve Perry, Carlos Santana, Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra. I thought about getting one placed by Steve Perry but didn’t.

Janet those skies are frightening and the fires must be really upsetting for you and those around you. I know when we have fires near us I always feel so threatened and on edge. Loved the cut-out crowds at the game and also your colouring – I’m a huge fan of colouring (one of the few “arty” things I’m any good at).

Hi Leanne – The skies were very odd for sure. We are actually not near any of the fires, which makes it even more weird. Coloring is my favorite thing to do while watching TV. For some reason I can’t just sit and watch, I have to be doing something with my hands. The cutouts are fun. We know a few people who have them so we’re always checking the crowd – LOL.

I haven’tlistened to a single game this year. I get little snippes on YouTube and Instagram, but I’ve developed a lot of apathy toward the game, and I don’t know why.

I know why, it’s not real baseball! Who ever heard of starting an extra inning game with a guy on second? What’s the deal with 7 inning double headers? I mean, really? Plus, a lot of the big names sat out because of Covid. My husband feels the same way. I’m just trying to pretend.

  12. Hi, Janet – I am so sorry to hear about the fires. Stay safe — and stay indoors as much as you can!

Yeah, I’m trying. Benny wants to go out and play so bad so I take him in the backyard and throw the ball a few times but then I make him come back in. It doesn’t smell as smoky today but it sure looks weird.
