Our friend John gives us an opportunity each month to send someone in the corner to take a time out. Last month I missed it but this month I remembered the beef I have with toilet paper so I’m sending all TP manufacturers to Stand In The Corner!
Everyone knows of the toilet paper shortage we’ve been through with the pandemic. Photos of toilet paper packages floated through the internet. I was so excited to score both toilet paper and paper towels in one trip.
I don’t want to seem ungrateful but I really don’t understand why all the toilet paper companies have to make the rolls be so large. MEGA size says 4 regular rolls packed into one. I am pretty sure that I am not alone in the fact that our toilet paper holders are not deep enough to accommodate the extra width of these things. Our house was built in 1955 and even the bathroom that we remodeled a couple of years ago, while it has a more modern holder, still doesn’t lend itself easily to this size.
My husband went to Staples the other day and they have some regular sized rolls so he got a pack. Look at the difference!

And I don’t even know how to figure out the prices because the ones from Staples were $15 for 24 of what they call double rolls while the Charmin from Safeway (not the one pictured) was 12 MEGA for $18 but they don’t really look four times as big. And most of the stores that I have been in don’t even seem to offer a choice anymore. It is either the MEGA or nothing! It also doesn’t take into account my aggravation factor when I have to put the roll of toilet paper on the sink until we use enough of it so it will fit in the holder.
Therefore, I wish to make the toilet paper companies “Stand in the Corner” until they go back to at least offering a choice of sizes! Thanks John, I feel much better now.

I have often questioned the mega-rolls as well. And to this day, I don’t understand the toilet paper hoarding. So yes, they need to stand in the corner!

Right? Like Covid was/is mostly upper respiratory so I could see maybe running out of kleenex but not toilet paper. Craziness.

I actually have Covid right now, and we are using a moderate amount of Kleenex and no extra TP. Now ibuprophen and kombucha are different matters…those are really what you go through quickly with Covid!

Bummer, Bethany! Sending quick healing thoughts your way. We got really lucky, my husband got it and was down for about a week and a half but it was mostly like a really bad cold and myself and our two kids who live in the same house all managed to not get it. Fortunately we have all gotten at least one dose of the vaccine now.

Yeah, my daughter tested negative, which is really weird because we live in a studio apartment and snuggle all the time! My husband has a really bad cold, and I just get tired a lot, and sore and sometimes my temperature goes haywire. I am going to try to work with some students virtually, as long as I rest a lot between.

LOL! Who knew we’d be discussing that, but seriously, they are such different sizes!!

Yes! They used to make a size that was just two times regular but now they don’t even have that, at least not where I shop.

Who knew that TP would become such a “thing”? Those large sizes are nuts!

Right? I mean, I guess there are worse things but sheesh.

Good choice for your stand in the corner post. I’ve noticed the same thing that you have and I think it’s sneaky and underhanded. Seems like of all the things manufactured on this earth, it’d be possible to standardize the size of a TP roll. Sheesh.

Right? Or at least give options instead of forcing the large size on everyone.

Interesting. We have two modern tp holders, and we go double roll all the time, no issue. I think the Mega rolls are a brand we never buy, because our house is 100 and the city is slowly replacing the plumbing we haven’t replaced. We got a real expensive hole when we moved in and if we’re not careful, we’ll end up with a bigger, more expensive hole. Mega would probably be too big and would definitely impact the sewer line.
I hear ya on the price difference. It’s not my math, I tell ya.

Sorry, your comment got stuck in my spam folder. How dare WP? Interestingly, another commenter told me about a toilet roll extender that Charmin was giving away so I ordered one. We’ll see! Yeah, our plumbing is from the 1950’s so we are holding our breath.

Can I send the manufacturer of Grape Nuts to stand in the corner? We can’t find them anywhere!

Absolutely! I hate when I can’t find something that I like in the stores.

Hehe what a cute idea!!! I also don’t understand these companies. I have found one brand that is usually a good price at my grocery store and good quality/size of roll. So I always stick to that one brand and type haha

Yes, I have one brand I like best and that’s what I try to get all the time. Frustrating when the only stuff that is on the shelves is the cheap stuff. Gotta have my 2-ply!

Ugh wow!!! Is that from the rona? Or just in general haha. We haven’t had supply issues since late spring thank goodness!

Yes. We have had limited supply and limited brands and are limited to 1 pack per shopper, at least at the Safeway store that I go to, since March.

Oh wow!! We have limits on how many packs we can buy but since May I have never had to compromise on what brand I buy

A funny, yet applicable post Janet. Toilet paper has been an issue this past year. (The Tissue has been an Issue – sad toilet humour 🙂).I have a photo of March 2020 showing how someone had fully loaded up his shopping cart with only toilet paper. You are right about the sizes not fitting in the holder. I hope you and loved ones are well, Janet.

Thanks Erica. The tissue issue was so unreal. We still have limited stock and limitations on the amount you can buy at one time. I’m almost in the habit now of buying some every time I go. Hope you are well too.

I like the larger rolls because I don’t have to change them often which means standing on my head under the sink to retrieve.🤪

I get that. I just want a choice, which doesn’t seem to happen anymore.

Frankly I am grateful to have toilet paper. There was quite the shortage here for awhile and I was starting to seriously monitor our usage! But I get the size thing. Very inconvenient when the toilet paper doesn’t fit on the holder.

Yeah, that’s my issue. It means I have to put it on the edge of the sink until we use some and it is a small bathroom with not a big sink.

I guess they figure everyone leaves it off the holder. or has one of those toilet paper stands. Still, good point!

When we remodeled the bathroom I at least got a holder that is only 1 sided but it is still up in the wall. I think I just resent not having a choice, you know?
