Muddling Through March – 2022 – Tripping

Well, Thursday was my birthday. I’m 67. I at first thought I was going to be 68 but when I realized I was only 67 I felt so much younger. Actually I feel pretty good. My weight has been plateaued for a couple months but it is down from last year by about 15 pounds so I’m okay with that. I still have another 25 or so to go. Because I’ve been eating healthier my blood tests are all normal, I don’t have to take meds for diabetes anymore and my blood pressure is in acceptable range.

About the only problem I have is my right knee. It has been off center since I had a tripping incident when the kids were younger and we were at a roller skating rink. A young person stopped short in front of me and in order to avoid rolling over them I did a quick pivot and my knee didn’t quite make the same movement. And then there was that time that I tripped down the back steps and actually broke my kneecap.

I can tell you it is no fun being in a leg brace, even one that is bendable. I am not really coordinated when it comes to crutches either. So my leg does occasionally ache but I think having 70 pounds less to carry around helps with that too.

I much prefer the kind of trip we made Thursday which was to Graton Casino. I was hoping that they would give some kind of bonus for it being my birthday but they said they stopped doing that when they reopened after the pandemic. I’d think they would have kept something like that to encourage people to make the trip there but what do I know?

I did have a short bit of excitement when I got this winner!

Pennies folks, these are pennies we’re betting.

Unfortunately, as exciting as that was, we didn’t win enough to allow me to retire – LOL. I may or may not have been doing some research for my upcoming A to Z theme of dating. I’ll let you be the judge of that. Which type of trip would you prefer? A trip to the ER after a fall or a trip to a casino where you could possibly win some money? Thanks to Linda for the prompt for today’s SoCS.

  1. Happy belated birthday! Having bad knees the worst… I know. That’s why I’m afraid to put my skates on… last time was when my kids were teenagers…. So not pushing my luck! As to age I used to have to count every birthday until finally not forgetting now. I turn 70 next month – snd I’d like to be forgetting. 😂 cant wait to see everyone’s A to Z’s!

Happy belated Birthday! Ouch – I dread looking at knee X rays but then read that your injury happened some time ago.

  3. Happy birthday! I once went several months thinking I was a year older too. How crazy is that? Sorry about your knee. Knee and back injury pain can stick around a lot longer than they should.

ER or casino? Those are my choices! In some ways going to the ER is a bit of a gamble BUT I’ll answer casino. Happy Belated Birthday!

LOL yeah, I agree about the ER and either way you will probably end up losing money! Fortunately there is the chance of making some money at the casino. Thanks for the birthday wishes.

  5. Happy Belated Birthday!!! You’re right your knee should feel better with less weight to carry around. We recently went through the plateau thing and found that 3 days in a row of longer fasts helped and we also discovered we had let the carb creep happen with 3 meals instead of just 2 meals. I’m sure you’ll figure it out and keep feeling great – no meds and good BP is a GREAT thing.

Thanks! Yes, I for sure let some carbs take over between a dinner out with some friends and my birthday treats. I find that eating fish for a few days helps me get back on track. Always have to be on guard, right?

      • You’re welcome! Yes, it is definitely a diet/lifestyle change that is sensitive to insulin spikes. Our bodies were conditioned to crave it in an unhealthy way for too long. The fact that you’re still off of your medications and doing well indicates for the most part, you’re adhering to what is good for your body!

I’d not vote for a trip to ER ever, but I’m afraid I feel the same way about casinos. I’m glad you had fun though 🙂

My knee has been reminding me of late why weight loss need to go back to being a high priority, and I’m now paying attention again. I will be scheduling my surgery – probably in the summer – but have started to get some weight off to help with post-operative mobility & recovery.

And a belated Happy Birthday 😀
