So we learned something new today about the meaning of “unattached” media files. I was going through my photos on WP trying to save some space by using previously uploaded pictures in my upcoming A to Z draft posts. I noticed there were occasionally some duplicate photos and since I just had to pay for more space, I thought that if I deleted some of the duplicates it would help. But how to know which ones are actually duplicates and which ones are attached to a post?
Well, there’s a drop down menu that says,”unattached” so I thought, great. I’ll delete the unattached ones. Sadly, according to WP, unattached doesn’t necessarily mean they are not attached to a post, it means they were uploaded directly to the post not through the media file :(. Which means that some of my posts now don’t have pictures in them anymore. Fortunately, most of them were from 2020 and earlier so I’ll just have to be careful if I am linking to a prior post that I double check it to make sure it is complete. Uggg. Anybody else learn a valuable lesson today?
Interesting to know… sorry it happened to you. It took me awhile to learn to resize photos to small size behold uploading to save space

That’s a good idea too. It might help with my simulcast to Blogger too since the photos always seem to turn out so big there.

I did that too but didn’t find out the reason. Thank you!

Oh my goodness that sounds so frustrating!! Im not sure if I learned a valuable lesson today but I did finally get a key to my classroom door!!! So now I dont have to sit in the hall on the floor if I’m there earlier than anyone else with a key 😅

LOL well that’s good. You’ve been there a long time not to have a key!

I didn’t know about the unattached deal. Mostly I just go through the media file and delete one by one on any photo I can. I have tons of posts with blanks where a picture once was, which I don’t like for that to happen. At this point I’m out of any photo space, so guess I won’t be using any new ones probably never again. I’ve already upgraded as much as I can, too.

I figure it will give me something new to write about if I find a post that no longer has pictures in it. If it’s that old, people won’t remember it, right?

I didn’t know this. I’m sorry that happened. I did find out a few months ago that WP doesn’t protect your unattached photos in your media file. Someone hacked into my media file, took a photo I was planning on using but hadn’t attached yet. The so-called Happiness Engineers told me that was my fault for storing the photo there unattached. They did nothing about, what I’d describe as, theft.

What? How can they get into your media file? Definitely theft. Thanks for that heads up!

Hmmm…I learned you shouldn’t freeze an unsliced loaf of bread because the crust doesn’t defrost right..

Interesting. We freeze bread all the time because I buy special Keto bread that I can only get at Costco so I get 4 loaves at a time but it is already sliced and comes out okay. Good to know about the unsliced.

When I freeze sliced it’s fine. Freezing an unsliced loaf made for very unappetizing bread

You’re welcome! It was telling me that I had over 400 pictures to delete! I thought I’d better make sure before I went that route.
