In combo with the #SoCS our prompt for today is “out of the box.” I’m pretty sure that I have had my fill of taking things out of the box.
I packed 31 boxes and the movers packed another 40 pieces (some boxes, some furniture) for a total of 71 pieces that were moved from my mom-in-law’s house in Oregon to the one bedroom apartment in the house next door to ours in California. My son and I unpacked most of the boxes and got some of the furniture put in place but this weekend I’m going to concentrate on getting the space livable since my MIL has been staying with us for the week. While I don’t mind and she has needed some help (she’s 97!) I am ready to get back in my own bed and spend some time in my studio.
Wish me luck that I can get the rest of the stuff “out of the box” and make the place livable for her in the next 2 days.
Gosh Janet, that’s quite the task you have there. Great that your MIL is ready to let go of stuff – it makes it so much easier.

She was a lot less attached to some things than I thought she’d be. Of course now that we are getting her settled next door she says, “I used to have…what happened to that?” LOL

Ha ha! Mine has done likewise to my sister – insisting that her dressing table should be in the shipping which they’ve just unpacked. It was one of VERY FEW items she choose to leave behind too. My poor sister!

Sorry Deb, the comment was in my trash folder and I forgot to check that! There are just a few things that she wishes she still has but has come to the realization that she could not keep everything. She is doing well thank goodness.

Thatβs a lot of work but what you are doing is important. I hope you are able to offload some of the things she no longer needs rather than trying to stuff them in her apartment or store them in your house. Good luck!

Surprisingly she is ready to let go of a lot of it. She realizes she doesn’t need it all. We have a donation pick up scheduled for next week. π

I’m tired even imagining the chore! God bless you helping your MIL. The current level of estrangement within families makes it rarer these days. π

I lost my mom last January and I feel like I need to do this for my husband’s mom.

That is a LOT of stuff to unpack. You deserve a break. Happy New Year!

Only to get rid of half of it once we got here – LOL

Well so be it, but it was great of you to do it.

Y’all are doing a good thing bringing her close to you, and that you are there if she needs help.
I do remember how tiring moving is with packing and unpacking though. I’m sure things will settle down soon. π

Fortunately we can do it in bits and pieces now that we are home.
