Economic Opportunity Over Extremism

My theme for this year’s A to Z is democracy. This is your trigger warning. If you are going to be bothered by my descriptions of what I believe America should look and feel like, please stop reading and come back next year when my topic may go back to music or scrapbooking or interesting tidbits. Please respect my space and DO NOT leave disinformation or inflammatory statements in the comments. It’s my blog and I will delete them. Thanks for your cooperation.

E is for Economic Opportunity Over Extremism

Economic OpportunityExtremism
Education
Employment
Financial Resources
Health
Federal Assistance
Uncompromising
Outside the mainstream attitudes of society
Zealous
Out of control

I don’t have to do much research on this one. Opportunity Economy was one of the cornerstones of Kamala Harris’ platform when she was running for president. Her vision of assisting new businesses to get started, a tax break for first time homebuyers and cancelling out of control student debt would certainly lead to a better future for most people. Oh how I wish!

I have been very fortunate to be able to work from home for the last 28 years and being able to claim a home office deduction on my taxes has been a huge help. The sale of the stock we had through my husband’s employer allowed us to get the downpayment for our home. Because he was subsequently disabled, the loans we had to take for our daughter to go to college were forgiven by the Department of Education. All of those things have really made a difference in our lives.

And now look at the extreme plunge the stock market has taken, the overzealous use of tariffs and most recently the war with Iran with no actual planning or foresight. Our retirement funds fluctuate, general prices are continuing to rise and #47 is off playing golf saying that he “doesn’t care” about the situation. Great. According to him, “We can’t pay for childcare. Our primary focus is the military.” He is truly out of control.

As always, thanks to Speaker Hakeem Jeffries for giving me the basis for this year’s challenge. Last year I made it through the letter E before I had to stop. Starting tomorrow the posts will be fresh from the oven – LOL.

I’m afraid we (the little guys) will be the ones who will have pay for 45/47’s war crimes. Someone will have to put that country back together again.

  5. Exactly. We need to have some huge reforms and I don’t know if there is anyone out there right now to make sure it happens.

I’m in shock at your post and so upset. I have friends on both sides of the aisle. I became a Republican in college as a journalism major and was stationed at the state capitol to write for a state newspaper. I saw things from both parties that shaped my views. Democrat men slept with interns. Democrats were on the take. They wanted everyone on government programs rather than being independent. I was 21 years old. I felt that we should have personal responsibility and be faithful and be upstanding citizens.

I know that all those things don’t always happen on either side of the aisle. But what you are saying is bigoted and degrading me for my politics. Where did you get your broad brush to demean people with different opinions?

My children believe socialism is the answer. We can have civil discussions. We don’t agree, but they never have attacked me as you have. I’m unfollowing you unless you care to research what Republicans actually believe in. Here’s a hint: we freed the slaves. We had a higher percentage of women the right to vote than the left. We were against Jim Crow. We believe in personal responsiblity and not being on the government dole.

Why should we write off a legal contract that somebody signed for college loans? Should my hair dresser or mechanic who didn’t go to college pay for that? We scrimped and paid for our children to not have loans. Yes our son had a small one. Now we’re paying off our daughter – in -laws loans. I don’t expect that is anyone else’s reponsbilitiy.

      • Oh EA, I am so sorry you are taking this so personally. I did not mention your name in this post that I can see. I NEVER said that all Democrats were perfect. As I said in the beginning you are most certainly entitled to have your opinion and totally within your right not to follow me.

      • I’ve been thinking about your comment all afternoon. You said you became a Republican in college. I’m not talking about the Republican party from those days. I’m talking about the people who are in charge now. Can you honestly say that you want Iran to be obliterated? Can you defend American citizens being shot in the street?

We can certainly debate the issue of college loan repayment or whether or not education and healthcare should be free for all citizens. We can talk about whether a woman has the right to an abortion. Those are basic policy issues.

What I can’t comprehend is how congress is letting this insane man drag our country down. He clearly is not well. Do you ever listen to or read Heather Cox Richardson? She is a Republican historian and writes a nightly newsletter and does 2 podcasts a week where she talks about what is going on now and gives examples of how similar scenes played out in history. If you haven’t heard of her, you might want to check it out.

Again, I am sorry that you are so upset by these posts. I have enjoyed discussions we have had in the past.

Our current 3 branches are engaged in the biggest grift our nation has ever suffered. I’m not sure we’ll ever recover from it. I see a lot of people struggling to survive while the rich get richer.
