My theme for this year’s A to Z Challenge is the A to Z of Democracy. This is your trigger warning. One would think it reasonable to assume that after so many years of education and bringing the examples of how racism is rampant in our country to the forefront, it would not have been possible to elect such outright racists to the highest level of our government. But you know what they say about “assume.”

I had no idea, for example, about the racism shown in the medical profession especially in regard to pregnancy. In the last few years I have been doing transcription for projects that are researching the differences in care between the races and how hard it is for people of color to get the same care given to white women. It is amazing.

Will we ever learn?
