W is for Working Families over the Well Connected

My theme for this year’s A to Z Challenge is the A to Z of Democracy. This is your trigger warning. If you are going to be bothered by my descriptions of what I believe America should look and feel like, please stop reading and come back next year when my topic may go back to music or scrapbooking or interesting tidbits. Please respect my space and DO NOT leave disinformation or inflammatory statements in the comments. It’s my blog and I will delete them. Thanks for your cooperation.

Working FamiliesWell Connected
Regular people with normal lives raising kids and working everyday trying to get ahead and build a life. Those with lots of money who have friends in high places that can use their wealth to gain special favors.

So this one is kind of easy, isn’t it? We can surely see that those with money have power over the rest of us folks. From inauguration day when all those millionaires and billionaires were standing behind #47 as he took the “oath” of office it was clear to see who was going to be most important. The subsequent bills that have been passed cutting all the needed services like healthcare, veteran’s benefits, food supply, etc. in order to pay for tax cuts for those folks who truly don’t need another dime in their lifetimes absolutely shows what’s happening here.

Can we imagine for a moment what would have been possible had the woman won? There was talk about assistance with first time home buying, starting new businesses and more. Sounds much more in line with the common man, no?

As always, credit goes to Speaker Hakeem Jeffries who gave an impassioned speech on the floor of the House of Representatives at the beginning of the 218th congress.

  1. When we decided to start our family, we decided I would stay home and look after the kids until they were all in school all day, So, my husband was the sole breadwinner with a 10K a year salary. We managed. When they were all in school, I went back and got my teaching degree. That extra income allowed us to buy a house–not a million dollar one, but the modest house we still live in today. It’s impossible for the ordinary middle class family or the lower income one to be a one-income family. Even on two salries, people can’t make ends meet. When I hear someone say, we need to go back to the good old days when women stayed home and looked after things, I want to scream. You want that to happen? Then don’t cut social programs, don’t cut health insurance, don’t cut all the things that would make it possible for a parent to stay home and run the house. And, to be fair, that person does not need to be the mother!

    • We have always been a two earner family. Sometimes it was me working and hubby at home for various reasons but mostly it’s been the two of us. We live in the SF Bay Area so pretty pricey but we were lucky and were able to sell some stock my husband got from working at Sara Lee for our down payment. I feel so sorry for our kids. One has already had to move out of state to be able to afford to rent! Another one had to move back home after a break up with his girlfriend. They just can’t afford any of it.
