Welcome to the letter D in the A to Z Challenge for 2018. Each day during April I am taking you through the alphabet at Michaels Arts and Crafts store. Today, D is for Drawing.
Michaels has a great section with all kinds of tools for drawing, from books for the beginner to the specialty pencils, pens and markers,
drawing pads and sketchbooks, both regular and watercolor,
charcoal bits and pencils,
and more detailed books about art and drawing.
There are tons of various sizes and kinds of canvas too, if you want to draw on a larger scale or turn your drawing into a painting.
I’ve never thought that I could draw, but truthfully I don’t think I’ve tried any drawing since I was in high school. Maybe I should give it a shot.
How about you? Draw much? What tools do you like to use?
Make sure to stop by some of the other A to Z bloggers. Lots of interesting stuff going on right now!

About scr4pl80
I'm a 60-ish, married, mom to 3, creative soul looking to make the world a better place one smile at a time.
I am really good at drawing stick-people, that’s about the extent of my talents! :-)) However I do enjoy drawing mandalas now and then, maybe I should get a new sketchpad to work on some!

Yes to mandalas! For some reason I don’t think of that immediately as drawing but it certainly is.

Janet,
As you may recall last year I began sketching again for the first time since my days in high school. I never considered myself an extraordinary talent but I always loved doodling so I picked it and just ran with it. Now, I’m having the time of my life to stretch my boundaries to see what I can and can’t draw. Great subject for the letter ‘D’!

Yes, Cathy. Last year’s sketches were terrific and I’m enjoying your new ones this year. Thanks for showing us that it’s okay to try something we don’t think that we can do!

I can draw, but hardly ever to my full satisfaction

Maybe once things calm down here (like when the A to Z is over) I’ll give it a shot.

I’m can’t draw myself, but my oldest is in Art School and she does amazing illustrations. I’ve gotten her quite a few drawing supplies at Michaels. Weekends In Maine

Yes, we have a lot of students come in. I try to give them the reminders about the coupons if they don’t show them to me automatically. I love helping the kids out.

The art and drawing section is great. I get my sketch books and fine tip markers there. I’ve also used some of the very large sketch books as scrapbooks. I love browsing around, and wishing I had it all. π

I use them as art journals too and have gotten some of the watercolor ones to cut up and use in my card making. Oh to have an unlimited income, right?

If only we could win a shopping spree! I’d load my basket with all kinds of great things. π

Me too! Like one of those 5 minute sprees you get to run through the store grabbing things!

I have no drawing talent, but I have recently gotten into rubber stamping and coloring the images. It’s so relaxing! I wish I had the talent to sketch and have it actually look like something when I’m done, but I am probably better off doing something a little more abstract. Loving this theme, by the way.

Thanks Dawn. Rubber stamping is fun too and sometimes you can use the stamp as a starting point for your own drawing. Glad you are enjoying the theme.

I haven’t spent a lot of time in this section but it sure looks thorough! And I thought I had to go to an art store for these.

And I didn’t even take a picture of the compasses and rulers and such! There are a lot of things there.

I can hardly draw stick people! My sister got that gene.π

That’s how I feel, although I believe there are some people who can make a living drawing stick figures π

One of the items on my bucket list is to take a drawing class sometime. I know 5-year-olds who can draw better than I can!

Me too. Wonder why we tell ourselves we can’t do something when all we really need to do is try a bit?

I don’t draw much these days, but I’m a well-practiced doodler. π I’ve always liked pencil on sketchpad.

Yes, doodling is fun. It’s when I have to make it actually look like something that I have a problem.

Ah, well, we can’t all be good at everything. You make fab paper pages and take fantastic moon shots!

So glad it’s payday this week. I already got the app so of course I’m going to go see how well it works. Love the info. The husband uses all the sketchpad’s and pens & pencils that an artist needs. Saturday mornings can be very expensive sometimes β€ Blessings Mz. Janet, loving the theme. You are doing great β€

Thanks Patti. I am glad I did a lot of prep work because keeping up with everyone else’s blog is almost a full time job in itself! Loving yours too.

I can draw but I am out of practice. I like drawing things though. It definitely helps to take art classes.bI took commercial art in school. Here is my D post.
