Up and out of the house early this morning to take my son to an appointment and while I was in the waiting room, I thought I’d check my emails. I get so many because I have about 4 email addresses to help keep things separate. Anyway, I saw this:
Now, the ones from DT I would have deleted as spam immediately anyway but after I took this screenshot, Tom Cruise, Kirk Douglas, Burt Lancaster and Jacob Marley also stopped by my blog to leave me comments! These were on my Blogger site and unfortunately Blogger is not as efficient as WordPress at weeding out these crazy people. It was too hard for me to navigate on my phone so I had to wait until I got home to handle this mess.
I mean, I know I write very insightful and interesting blog posts but I’m pretty sure that Leo, Tom and Bruce have other things to do, not to mention that Burt Lancaster is dead and Winnie the Pooh and Jacob Marley are fictional characters. Somebody has too much time on their hands and just what do they expect to gain from this? They have to know that the comments are going to be marked as spam and deleted don’t they?
Does this ever happen to you? What do you do about it?

Wild. At first I was jealous that you had messages from Winnie Pooh…

The worst part is that on this post on my Blogger site, I still get spammers trying to leave me messages! I’m getting closer and closer to deleting Blogger!

OH. Well that’s a pity. I know some people who left WP for Blogger. I don’t get it. I don’t like Blogger. I still visit some of those people, but I don’t like it.

Good grief on your inbox, Janet. Although, you never know. Winnie the Pooh is often insightful. 🙂Good luck on weeding through the emails. I also hope your son is okay.

Thanks Erica, he is doing okay. Winnie the Pooh does have some good messages but not in this case – LOL

I have a friend who tweets all the time. I can’t keep up with everything. I try to minimize social media. I hate having more than 3 emails unanswered. I try to separate work and play and interests.Or else, I just get too confused.

I don’t tweet. I do use Instagram though. I am visiting Facebook less and less because all I get is mostly ads now. You could spend forever going through all the different platforms of social media and we have better things to do, right?

Facebook is worrisome because I find people reveal too much and it is fascinating.

LOL – My spam filter weeds out all of those and I never look to see what is captured. It would be dreamy to hear from Tom though! Way to attract the big guns! 😉

Yes, if it happens too many more times I’m going to just stick with WP instead of Blogger. WP filters all this stuff out for me.

That may be a wise decision. I don’t know how you keep up with two blogs?! I suspect you have different followers, they add to the variety in your day, right?

Well, I have 186 followers on WP and only 26 on Blogger so…

Janet,
WOW, I never knew you were so deeply connected with the Hollyweird scene, dead people, fictional characters, and the President! Gee, you really surprise me! lol The spam that I get is no where nearly as interesting as yours.

It really makes me take a second look when I see those names. Too bad the messages aren’t a little more sincere!

Crikey, my spam is so much more mundane & hugely less creative in their fake names 😂

Why do you have your blog in two places? Seems like it’s more trouble than it could be worth. Unless you like getting emails from Leo, Tom, and Bruce, of course. 😉

Ally, when I started my blog it was on Blogger only but during the first A to Z challenge I saw that almost everyone was on WP so I started a blog there. John Holton showed me how to simulcast using ITTT so I just create the blog on Blogger and it automatically posts on WP too so I’m only doing one post not two. I may give up Blogger but I am used to its format so it will be a learning curve with WP.

I can see how it happened. I started on Blogger, but have found WP safer in the sense of stopping spam. Plus now I’m used to it, so no going back.

Akismet does a better-than-average job of filtering out spam. Spam was another reason I stopped simulcasting.

Absolutely, John. I may give up the Blogger site, although it will take a while to learn how to post on WP.

Janet,
I thought switching from Blogger to WP would be hard but it’s not a big deal. It’s just different. You’ll be okay if you make the move! 😉

Hi, Janet – I’ve never had any celebrities comment on my blog (IRL or as spam). It would be cool to receive their IRL comments!

Hi Donna! Yes, IRL I would have loved a comment from Leonardo. Not so much DT.

My son has had a couple of people react to his instagram posts but no one has answered any of my tags.

A follower tagged this person in a tweet before I got a blog twitter and it was a star from the tv show I was raving about and they saw it and had a word press account so he commented!

I mostly get spam from casinos, so sad.

Casinos, that’s interesting. We do go to some once in a while so that might not surprise me.

It looks cool to see those names (except for DT) but I knew right away there was something fishy going on.

I’ve tagged a few celebs on Instagram when I included them in one of the Sketchbooks I did but never got any response. It surprised me that the actual comments from these people were long.
