My Goodness It’s May 28, 2023

I haven’t posted much this month, as is my usual after the busy April A to Z, but it’s not because I’ve sunk my teeth into anything new, just because I sank into the “I don’t have anything exciting to say,” mood. However, I do have something fun to talk about now so here goes.

May 20th was our 39th anniversary. I’ve written before about some of the anniversary adventures we’ve been on and we went on another one this year.

We have a really good friend who had timeshare points to use or lose so he gave them to us. We went to Las Vegas for a few days and it was so relaxing. We stayed in a place called Tahiti Village and it was just as if we had gone to a tropical island. My favorite part was sitting by the “river” reading. I finished that book in two days.

Here’s my hubby floating along. I did it too but I didn’t take my camera with me because I was afraid I’d drop it.

We did drive up and down the strip a few times and went to the Gold and Silver Pawn shop but we didn’t sink a fortune into the slot machines. In fact, we only gambled for an hour and a half. That’s pretty good I think for being in Las Vegas. We also didn’t go see any shows. We were trying not to spend a ton of money.

I did notice one thing as we were walking through the SF airport that would have fit perfectly into my A to Z light show from last month:

I’d have taken a longer video but we were on our way to get our bags and had a friend coming to pick us up from the airport. I did some research and it is called Spirogyrate, designed by Eric Staller and installed in 2014. There are 12, 66-1/4 inch circles that spin and light up. Per the website, “Staller’s artwork utilizes light, space and motion to delight and surprise the public. Spirogyrate is an immersive and interactive installation composed of graphic spiral patterns and light that change and respond to people’s movement through the space. The result is a whimsical environment to be enjoyed by travelers of all ages.”

See, I’m always on the lookout for things to astound and amuse you with! It will probably be a while before I have anything else to say as we are back to the same old routine. Happy Sunday!

Linda’s words for yesterday’s Stream of Consciousness Saturday were sink/sank/sunk. I’m a day late but thought I’d play anyway.

Looks like you had a fun time. Congrats on your anniversary. I’ve seen mention of Spirogyrate, but had no idea what it was. Cool beans, it looks like.

  4. Hi, Janet!

Here I am, the new kid on the block at your other address. I hope this comment goes through AOK.

Once again, I wish you and Bill a happy 39th anniversary. You’ll need to start thinking ahead about where you’ll go when the biggie (#40) rolls around next year. I had no idea Lost Wages offered a quiet, serene oasis like Tahiti Village. It looks a lot like the place Mrs. Shady and I visited while vacationing in Central Mexico. They had mineral enriched pools of varying sizes, shapes and water temperatures. It felt so good to wade in them!

Thanks for taking some pics of major attractions along the Vegas strip. I’m glad you didn’t lose too many wages while there. I agree that Spirogyrate would have made a great addition to your A to Z Challenge. There seems to be no end to the beautiful, artistic murals, sculptures and light installations that enrich the lives of the lucky citizens of SF. I really envy you.

So to expand upon what I told you at Shady’s Place… this is goodbye until the second week of June. I am taking this shorter break now, followed soon after by a hiatus that will last around 5 months as we prepare to move to another state. Mrs. Shady and I are scrambling to pack what we want to take with us, sell stuff we don’t want to drag along, give away a bunch of items to family members and neighbors and throw away the rest. You never know how much stuff you have until it’s time to move, right? We are also having repairs made to this house and having construction crews get busy with add-ons and upgrades to our new house which we just purchased a week ago up in the mid-Atlantic states. It will be like going home again, because Mrs. Shady and I were both born and raised up in that area. So yessum, we’re heading back up to the chilly north where we came from.

Goodbye DeSantis… hello de Santa Claus! 🙂

Next Saturday, June 3, I will publish a post tagged with the announcement of my first hiatus, but I will not be available to reply to any comments on it. I hope to resume blogging on a very temporary basis on June 11 followed by the months long break a week or so later. I hope we will stay in touch, because you are one of my top friends and I thoroughly and genuinely enjoy your content.

Have a wonderful week ahead, dear friend Janet!

Hey there, my dear Shady – Thanks so much for taking the trouble to come and see me here! I am thinking that for our 40th I might want to renew our vows. I still haven’t found my wedding ring so maybe I can get a new one and have the ceremony to bless it. We’ll see what our finances look like then!

Tahiti Village did have spas and hot tubs but for some reason we didn’t go to that section. It really is a pretty big place.

I don’t envy your move, especially at our age, but I definitely would want to leave Florida with that lunatic in charge and I am a bit envious of a new house. I definitely will come and check your site periodically later in the year. I would hate to lose touch with you as well. Safe travels!
