August Break – 2019 – Day 21 Right Now

August Break has a little over a week left. I have an idea for September but I need to work on it a bit more. Today’s prompt is “Right Now.”

I was walking the mall today while I was waiting for Benny to be done at the groomers. This is the same mall that had the shooting in July. I saw this train down one of the side aisles.

The mall was empty but I think it’s more because all the kids are back in school than because people are afraid. The shooting was at the other end of the mall and since it was a personal fight not a random act it is a little less scary.

I wonder how much this train will get used when it gets closer to Christmas? There was nothing like this when my kids were little but I certainly would have let them ride if there had been. I did notice a few more empty storefronts though. Thank goodness they still have Barnes and Noble and Target here! The smell from Mrs. Fields’ was delightful and I had to walk past it fast!

August Break – 2019 – Two

Today’s prompt is Two. I mentioned the other day that 5 is one of my favorite numbers and there are five in our family. I love doing things all together but sometimes just two is fun too! Over the past year I’ve been able to have “two” time with everyone and it’s been great!

August Break – 2019 – Number – Picnic – My Hands

Catching up today with #Augustbreak2019 because I’ve missed a couple of posts.

August 16: Number

I’ve been doing the August Break for a few years now and I have this page from 2015. I wrote that my favorite numbers are 3 and 5.

While doing the research for that, I was curious so I looked at some numbers in relation to my blog. Interestingly, although I use Blogger to write my posts because that’s the platform I started with, I am able to simulcast it on WordPress thanks to John at The Sound of One Hand Typing who introduced me to IFTTT. On my Blogger site I have 25 followers and 694 total posts. On my WordPress site I have 164 followers and 941 posts. I am not sure how I have more posts on WordPress but I wonder if I should just learn how to use that and give up my Blogger? Something to ponder. I also see that some of the pictures from 2015 are no longer showing on my Blogger but they are on WordPress. What’s up with that?

August 17: Picnic

I don’t go on many picnics but I have this cute mini-album in the shape of a picnic basket for sale in my Etsy shop in case you want to use it for some pictures of picnics that you have had :).

August 18: My hands

I use my hands all the time since typing is what I do for a living. A few years ago I had an interesting occurrence with my wedding rings. I am still not quite sure how it happened but they got warped while on my hand and yet nothing was wrong with my finger.

I had the rings repaired but didn’t like the way the anniversary band came out so we got a ring enhancer to go around the wedding bands instead.

A couple of weeks ago I was walking Benny and we had a run in with a mean cat. When I went down to pick up Benny so the cat couldn’t get at him my hand got in the way.

It looks worse than it is and it is all better now but I was surprised at how black and blue it got. There were two claw puncture marks as well. The cat was just as big as Benny and pretty strong. Benny growls as we pass by the house now!

Now I’m all caught up and can start fresh tomorrow. Thanks for following along.

August Break – 2019 – Intention

Missed a post yesterday because I was trying to come up with something for intention and it took a while. Finally got it but by the time I did it was too late to write. Ah well, life you know?

I have talked about how much I love the beach and yesterday our daughter and I went to watch the sunset.

I just love the way the waves crash and roll.

Even went down and got my feet wet.

As the waves went back into the ocean and the sand moved under my feet I felt the stress and tension inside me move out as well. Also felt wet on my butt because it was a pretty good wave!

It is my INTENTION to make this a more regular occurrence. It only took about 15 minutes to get to this pretty spot and there is no reason I can’t start doing that more often, especially knowing the way it makes me feel. Maybe even again today – it is Friday after all.

August Break – 2019 – Favorite Smell

Day 14 is “Favorite Smell” and while I don’t wear perfume regularly, I used to like White Musk. My favorite smell now though is this Marshmallow Body Powder from Urban Decay.

It comes with this pretty purple pillow puff that is really soft. You just shake a little on

and smooth it over your skin. I put it on my forearm.

It looks sparklier in real life and it smells so delicious.

As the container clearly states, however, while you can lick it, it is not a food substitute.

Disclaimer, my forearm is not usually where I put it 😇😜

I also love the smell of vanilla and fresh baked bread and donuts! What’s your favorite smell?

August Break – 2019 – Last Year

Our prompt is “Last Year.” It was fun looking through the pictures I have from last year to put this together.

Not in any particular order – last year was:

a graduation from college, concerts and more concerts, trips to the Indian Casino, Reno, Oregon and our annual Boulder Creek golf tournament, seeing the full moons each month, the sunset over the ocean and the haze around the sun from the fires hundreds of miles away, baseball games and getting the announcers to give me a smile, more gray hair on my head, a scrapbook retreat and crafting for the holiday boutique, my sketchbook in the Brooklyn Art Library, cleaning out the backyard and fireworks in the front yard, quitting my job at Michaels, making peach pie from peaches off our peach tree and homemade ravioli for Christmas dinner, and a double rainbow for luck. We also went to two weddings, which I forgot to include! Quite a year. How was yours?

August Break – 2019 – 5 Things About Me

I’ve done posts about myself before so I’m trying to think of new things, or at least a new way of looking at them. Working from the top left down:

1) I am a hopeless romantic and believe in knights in shining armor, BUT, I also believe that I can be Queen and not just a princess waiting for rescue.

2) I’ve had the “Bill Loves Jan” sign for over 30 years and it sticks on the dashboard of all my cars.

3) We went on a helicopter ride and had a picnic overlooking the Grand Canyon for our anniversary a few years ago. We stayed in the Excalibur Hotel which looks like a castle (see #1).

4) I am a creator and absolutely love working in my new backyard studio.

5) I am a Pisces and I love the ocean. I don’t get there as much as I’d like and that has to change.

The prompt for today’s #Augustbreak2019 is “hope.” The prompt for #SLS is “Songs with somebody famous in it.”

I’ve chosen the song “I Knew You When” by Bob Seger. While the lyrics don’t specifically mention his name, Mr. Seger has said it is his tribute to the late Glenn Frey who was a good friend of his. The lyrics include the word Hope.

In fact, the whole album is dedicated to Glenn. There is a slight reference to #45 in the song “Busload of Faith” where he sings, “You can’t depend on the president, unless there’s real estate you want to buy.” Funny, but sad at the same time.

I had hoped that we could see Bob Seger one more time before he retires but sadly his visit in our area coincides with the golf tournament my husband participates in every September and it just won’t work out. I’ll just have to remember the other times we saw him.

Hope is a hard thing to take a picture of but every time I look at the full moon I think about my dreams for the future and hope that the Universe is listening.

August Break – 2019 – Day 10 My Outfit – #SoCS – Where

Where I am most of the time is working from home so my outfit is my PJs and I’m pretty sure I don’t want that out there in the Internet for all to see. Here is one of my latest outfits that I can share:

My dog walking outfit, fanny pack with treats, leash with poop bags and a sparkly cap because that’s how I roll.

Since I’ve been walking Benny twice a day it really makes me mad that some pet owners do not clean up after their animal children. So many times I see poop just laying there and of course Benny needs to smell it all. The ones that are off the side in the dirt are bad enough but occasionally I’ll see some droppings just in the middle of the sidewalk. What the heck? If you can’t be responsible for your pet’s mess, don’t have one! No consideration for other people. And that’s my rant for the day.

August Break – 2019 – Day 9 – Ground

Since I just took a picture of the ground yesterday for curves, I needed to do something different for today’s prompt. Here’s my take on it:

Gotta have my coffee in the morning! I don’t like it too strong so the Starbucks Veranda blend is one of my favorites. Sometimes I can get it on sale at either Safeway or Target and when that happens I make sure to stock up. It doesn’t last long enough to get stale around this house!

Also, while I’m here, I thought I’d give you a peek at some of the new cards I have going up in my Etsy shop today. I’ve been watching the Giants on TV in the studio and getting my craft on at the same time.
