Z is for Little SuZie

Okay, here we are. The last letter in the A to Z challenge for 2024. It is unquestionably one of the hardest letters to fill in my opinion. My theme throughout this challenge has been to write about artists we have seen, scrapbooked or not, that I haven’t written about before. If I haven’t seen a group whose name starts with the letter, one of my steps has been to go to our friend Google and ask, “songs starting with the letter…” whatever letter I’m looking for. If there is no song starting with that letter by any of the artists that I have to work with then I go to the next step which is to pick a band and then search for their songs. If a song has that letter then I can use it!

As I wrote yesterday for Bonnie Raitt, I picked a song that she does sing but she didn’t sing it at the show we saw. Fortunately I made it work. I ran into that same situation here with the letter “Z.” My original title for this post was “EZ Come EZ Go” by Tesla. But when I looked at the setlists for the shows we saw, they didn’t sing that song. Good news for me is that they DID sing a song called “Little SuZi.” Therefore, my A to Z is complete for this year!

So Tesla. Not a band I was familiar with the first time we saw them as the opening act for Scorpions. And honestly, even after we saw them I wasn’t into adding them to my list of bands to follow. “Hair Metal Band” is how they are described. Definitely true. Lots of hair. I was too busy watching their lead singer (Jeff Keith) look off to stage right throughout the whole show. It was kind of distracting.

We next saw them as the opening act for Reo Speedwagon and Def Leppard. Since there were three bands performing they had a shorter set list.

  • Date: 6/9/2012
  • Venue: Shoreline Amphitheater, Mountain View CA
  • Artist/Tour: Tesla/Final Sting World Tour
  • Setlist:
  • Cumin’ Atcha Live
  • Edison’s Medicine (Man Out of Time)
  • I Wanna Live
  • Hang Tough
  • Signs
  • Love Song
  • Modern Day Cowboy
  • Little Suzie
  • Date: 9/25/2016
  • Venue: Shoreline Amphitheater, Mountain View
  • Artist/Tour: Tesla
  • Setlist:
  • Rock Me To The Top
  • Edison’s Medicine (Man Out of Time)
  • Little Suzi
  • Love Song
  • Modern Day Cowboy

They are still not a band I’d go see unless they were opening for someone else. I do like the song, “Love Song” though. The rest are too metal for me.

Well, I did it! I am not sure I’d be able to go through the alphabet again even though there are groups we have seen that I didn’t write about. If you think about it, I’ve been through the alphabet three times now doing this concert theme without repeating so that’s at least 78 different artists! Hope you enjoyed going to the concerts with me. I don’t know what I’m going to do for next year if my space on WP doesn’t hold out! Did you finish your A to Z challenge? Were you able to go visit other folks? I’m going to make that my goal for the upcoming weeks. For now, I’m resting!

    Hi, Janet!

I am here to cheer you across the finish line, dear friend, as you successfully complete the A to Z Challenge for April, 2024. Congratulations on accepting the challenge again this year. If you and Bill have seen 78 different music acts, that is an impressive total. I was wondering how you would handle the difficult letters of the alphabet. If I had been playing this year and doing the same theme, I would have had no trouble naming a “Z” artist. Circa 1986, a woman I was dating at the time urged me to take her to a Pia Zadora concert in the Tampa Bay area. Pia, as you might recall, was a child actress on Broadway before mounting a reasonably successful recording career in adulthood.

Knowing that you are not a fan of hard and heavy music, I am surprised that you went to see Tesla. At the MTV station where I worked in the 80s, their videos were played on the late night hard rock/heavy metal “Headbangers Ball” show segment. However, if they were opening act for The Scorpions in one concert and opened for Speedwagon and Leppard in another, it makes more sense to me, because those three bands are known for recording their share of ear-pleasing melodic rock songs and power ballads. I enjoyed the pictures you took, especially the one looking down the line at the three musicians in formation.

Congratulations once again on this blogging achievement, producing and publishing 26 posts in a span of one month. I admire your dedication to this annual hop. I have a new post running this week at Shady’s Place and invite you to check it out. I hope you and my buddy Benny are well and in good spirits, dear friend Janet, and that you enjoy the rest of your week and the month of May until I see you again!

    • Thanks for stopping by, dear friend. I have heard of Pia Zadora but I didn’t know she sang. I think I have exhausted concerts as a theme for my A to Z. I have some time to think about next year. I have already been to see you, knowing that you had a post coming out today. Have a wonderful rest of your month too!

  10. Laugh, you really stick to your rules, good for you. i would have done some lazy silly thing like my Poem for Z… although In truth I did spend quite a bit of thinking power on it. Poems aren’t my best. Tahts why I don’t feel bad when I do that.. its like growing. 🙂 So nice to hang out with you again this year great posts and HAPPY COMPLETION!!!
