A to Z Challenge – 2020 – Kiss On My List

Starting our third week of the A to Z and my “K” is for “Kiss on My List” by Hall and Oates.  I was really excited to see this concert because the songs of Hall and Oates remind me of my single days living in my own apartment.  My favorites are “Kiss on My List” and “Maneater.”

Sadly, this show did not live up to my/our expectations.  In fact, it is one of the very few concerts we have actually left before the end, sort of.  We left our seats and went to stand on the upper walkway for the last song.

Perhaps because the experience was not as exciting as I would have liked, I didn’t take much time in the scrapbooking of it either.  These papers are already printed with spots for the pictures so all I had to do was fill them in.

I do like the way this first page came out though, and it is one of the better pictures of my hubby and I.  Instead of the actual “tickets” which are not real tickets anyway I just wrote where we were sitting under the picture.

The setlist that was entered on Setlist.FM for this show had to be incorrect because it only gave 9 songs and I know they did more than that because they were the only group performing that nigh.  I used a “generic” setlist from the average of what they did in 2011.  I’m thinking they added some newer songs that we didn’t recognize and that’s why we weren’t enthused.  I remember having to wait what seemed like a long time to hear “Kiss on My List.”  Also, Daryl Hall spent a lot of time talking about himself and pushing his hair out of his eyes.  It was kind of distracting.

On top of that, our seats were off to the side and my camera was the old one so pictures came out iffy.

The bottom line is I’ve given myself permission to let this one be and move on to the next one.  I will remember the show well enough with this, no reason to waste good supplies.  LOL, sorry Hall and Oates.

Would we see them again?  Maybe but for sure I wouldn’t spend a lot of money on tickets and I’d check the setlist carefully before buying them.  Thanks for coming along on my A to Z journey.  Hope you have had time to visit some of the other wonderful folks out there.  I’ve been reading some really interesting posts.  See you tomorrow.

A to Z Challenge – 2020 – Jessie’s Girl

I’m using a song title for my letter again, J is for “Jessie’s Girl” by Rick Springfield.  We are at the Mountain Winery and although Springfield was the headliner, there were three other groups playing that night.  Tommy Tutone opened followed by Greg Kihn and then Loverboy.  Truthfully I think we went to see Loverboy but the whole show was a good one.  Because I’m already behind I’m just going to scrapbook the Rick Springfield pictures now.  The others will have to wait.

Paper Wishes papers.  It’s called “Charming.” Love the rich colors.

Even though I am not making pages for the other bands yet, I needed to include them on the title page.  I have some papers left so I’ll be able to use those for Tommy, Greg and Loverboy but will probably have to mix in others.  Good thing that kind of paper is not in short supply around here!
I used the stained glass template again but didn’t get quite as detailed with cutting up the pictures.  I put some Dazzles stickers in the corners.

He had a screen behind him which not all the acts at the Winery do.  Almost made it seem like he was at a bigger venue.  He also left the stage and went walking through the crowd.  That is always fun to see.

I used the “Arrows” stencil to sketch that.

The drummer, Jorge Palacios, was pretty good.  Rick sang 12 songs.  I didn’t realize he had that many!  Did you know his real name is Richard Lewis Springthorpe?  I did not!

I used this Nuvo Glitter Drop to make a center in the flowers on the page.

He had a really neat looking guitar on the stage before he came out so I had to grab a picture.
Saving the best for last, Jessie’s Girl was the encore.

And in the album it will look like this, almost, because I’ll fit the other bands in between these pages.

The paper on one of those pages is not from the original collection.  I added it to include some extra pictures.  Can you tell which one it is?

Here is “Jessie’s Girl” as we saw it.

The “joint” was certainly jumping that night.  (Joint is the Stream of Consciousness prompt for today.  Thanks Linda!)

I have to admit that I don’t have the rest of the alphabet already finished.  I’m going to try and do as much as I can with our “free” day tomorrow but I’m not holding out much hope that I’m going to make it.  I’ll continue with the alphabet as planned but the scrapbooking is going to be hit and miss.  Oh well, such is life, right?

A to Z Challenge – 2020 – Isaak

Chris Isaak is helping me fill the “I” spot in the A to Z Challenge.  We were looking for shows to help us keep our “Loyalty status” at the Mountain Winery and saw that he was going to be playing so we decided to take a chance.  We knew a few of his songs but weren’t really huge fans.  We were pleasantly surprised at the number of songs we actually did know and he is a very personable performer with lots of crowd interaction.  We didn’t realize he has been performing for over 30 years!

In looking through my paper collection, I found this double sided set.  It is not from Paper Wishes so I’m pretty sure I got it at either Michaels or JoAnn’s.  It is K and Company brand.

After I started putting the pages together, I went with a completely different color scheme by using the back side of those same papers!

I’ve had this little beaded embellishment for so long and I thought it fit great here.

We were sitting close enough that my husband was able to sneak up to the stage and take a picture of the setlist!

I’m not sure what the numbers next to the songs are.  Perhaps for the lighting or microphones?

I am taking a chance sometimes by stamping on the page itself.  What if it smudges or doesn’t come out cleanly?

Fortunately it did.  I guess I could just rearrange the pictures to hide it or add a different embellishment over that spot.

I just added some simple borders to these pages.  More stuff that I’ve had around for ages.

I loved the butterfly on this page and had one that matched so I put it up on some foam tape to make it pop off the page.

Another thing I’m trying to use more of is my punches.

Of course I have a musical punch.

For the encore Chris came out in this suit that looked like it was a million tiny mirrors.  I can imagine it being so heavy!  It certainly was sparkly.

I did a little something with the guitar on the middle picture here.

Can you tell?

It is a clear Dazzle sticker that I put over the top.  You can still see his hands but it makes the picture sparkle a little like his suit.

Here’s the final version as it is in the album.

We had great seats and I was able to get a lot of good pictures so this one has a lot of pages.  My favorite Chris Isaak song is “Wicked Games.” He sang it in the dark and it was so cool.  Here is “Baby Did A Bad, Bad Thing.”

I always thought that Chris Isaak was a country singer but actually they rocked it pretty good.  He has been singing a lot longer than I realized too and his band has been the same all through the years.  They looked like they were enjoying themselves too.

That’s it for “I.”  Hope to see you tomorrow for “J.”  No, it’s not Journey.  I did them in 2017.

A to Z Challenge – 2020 – Heart

Heart is my pick for the letter “H” in our A to Z excursion. We have seen the Wilson sisters several times, the first as one of the opening acts for Journey at Shoreline in 2008.  This is another set that was scrapbooked a while ago and I have just a couple of poor pictures and not much info about how I put them together.  Pretty basic stuff.

We saw them again in 2011 as an opening act, this time for Def Leppard.   I found another set of beautiful papers.  They are from Paper Wishes.  I probably should have been more diligent in keeping the names of the collections but truthfully, these papers are so old that if you really wanted them you probably wouldn’t be able to get them anymore.

I used some gold letters for the title.  Aren’t we cute?

I thought this flower on the papers looked like the Rosette stencil.

This is what the finished page looked like.  I used some yellow heart-shaped gems around the outer edge and put some Dazzles in each corner.  I traced around the stencil with gold pen.

Heart has so many great songs and we were wishing they could have done more but that’s what happens when you’re the opener.

I stamped the guitar on this page and added some color accents.

The most amazing thing about this show was that just as the band started their final song, “Love Reign O’er Me” (the Led Zeppelin song) something astonishing happened that is very rare for a September night in California, it started raining!  As they kept singing, it rained harder and harder and at the end, thunder and lightning.

It was magical.  Fortunately we were under the tent cover so we didn’t get wet but I was able to take these pictures.  So glad we weren’t sitting out on the lawn!

I wanted to add some hearts to the page so I used this punch for a border.

Here are the pages as they are in the album.

And just in case you think I’m making this whole thing up, here’s a video someone took who was also there that magical night.  You can see the rain around 6:45 minute mark.

Because of the lights, Ann and Nancy (I read) were not even aware that it was raining while they were singing.  They didn’t know until they went backstage.  We have seen Heart twice more at the Mountain Winery as headliners but this is the show that will stand out for me.

I appreciate all the kind comments I’ve gotten on my little scrapbooking endeavors.  Thanks.  Come by tomorrow for the letter “I.”  I think you’ll like it.

A to Z Challenge – 2020 – Get Ready

The premise of the A to Z Challenge is that you write a post with the corresponding letter of the alphabet in mind.  My theme for this year is to show the scrapbook pages I’ve made of bands we have seen.  In 2017 when I did the same theme, I used Genesis as my “G.”  We didn’t see any other “G” bands so I’m using the name of a song that starts with the letter “G,” – Get Ready by the Temptations.  I have another band that I want to use for “T.”

Turns out that I saw the Temptations for the first time at the Circle Star Theater in 1973!  That was a really interesting venue because the stage was a circle and it rotated during the performance.  I have no pictures from that time but I do have the program in my very old scrapbook.

This time we saw them at the Mountain Winery – can you tell that is one of our favorite venues?  I decided to use this paper from Creative Memories that I’ve had in my stash for quite a while.

The Motown evening had the Temptations paired with the Four Tops but I already had Frampton picked for my “F” so I only scrapped the Temptations pictures for now.

A friend of ours who is a big Temptation/Four Tops fan came with us.

I really didn’t do too much extra to these pages other than add some Dazzles stickers as accents.  The paper itself has a busy background.

There is only one of the original Temptations left but it was hard to tell.  They were really good and had the crowd up on their feet dancing along.

I didn’t have a set list from that show but in general they sang their hits.

I thought it was cool the way they put their arms on each other’s shoulders as they left the stage.

Here are the pages as they turned out for the album.

And a video of my favorite song, “Lady Soul.”

Hope you don’t mind the little trickery with the letter today.  In fact, I am going to do it with a couple of other letters too.  I’m calling it creative license.  See you tomorrow with “H.”

A to Z Challenge – 2020 – Frampton

“F” is for Frampton.  We’ve seen him twice at the Mountain Winery.  The first time was in 2010.  I scrapbooked these pages a while ago so I don’t have the “how I did it” photos.

The view from the top of the mountain is so pretty, although these photos don’t do it justice.

I was lucky enough to get this picture of Peter waving to the crowd.  Almost looks like he is waving to me, no?

The most memorable thing about this show was the woman who was behind us dressed in a butterfly costume.  She went up on the walkway and danced, waving her “wings.”

I did use a Lea France template (I think it was the Beach Umbrella) and wrote the set list around it.

Peter Frampton’s son was playing with him that night.

The last time we saw him was in 2016.  For this set I used a paper collection called Rhapsody from Paper Wishes.

This collection also has some die cuts and tags that coordinate with it.

I used a corner punch that looks like a flower for some of the pictures.

There was a notice at the entrance that said that Peter and the band requested limiting picture taking to the first three songs.  It was the first time we had seen something like that.  We had really good seats though!
I wanted to convey my dilemma so I used this stencil to make a double pointed arrow.

Another Lea France stencil here, Rose Window.

I love the way this one turned out with the paper design framing it.  I just added a few sparkle gems to the center of the flowers.  The guitar in the middle is from the drums.

I used one of the embellishments on this page.  It looks like an old cassette.

The musical notes are Dazzles stickers.

He had a pretty full set list.

I used another stencil on this one.  Since they were limiting the picture taking, I thought this Say Cheese! would be appropriate because it is the shape of a camera.

I added a “flash” and smile button.  The middle section is supposed to look like a lens shutter.

Here is the finished set.

At the time I know I was a bit disappointed with the limiting of the picture taking.  I did break the rules and take some during later songs and their final bow but I figured that the show was over so they wouldn’t mind.  Given that we have been prohibited from taking them at all a couple of times, I’d rather have them limit it to a few songs than say no pictures period.  After all, the reason I take them is to be able to scrapbook the experience and I think this documents it pretty well, don’t you?

I believe Peter Frampton is one of the artists who have said they will not be touring anymore but given the state of affairs at the moment, maybe all those groups who said they were not going out on the road will be so bored having been in isolation that they’ll change their minds!  We’ll see.

Okay, that’s it for “F.”  Tomorrow’s “G” is going to be just a bit different.  Come see!

A to Z Challenge – 2020 – ELO

ELO is my contribution for the letter “E” this year.Ā  It is another one of those bands that I kind of forget about until I hear the music and then realize I love the songs!

For this set of pages I decided to go with a watercolor collection because I knew the pictures were going to be very colorful on their own and I didn’t want the background pattern to take away from that.Ā  This is a pack of paper I got from Michaels.

I also went through the rest of my papers and found one or two that would coordinate.

It is the “Electric Light Orchestra” and when I found this purple and yellow paper it reminded me of the flashing lights.
I used some glitter letters for the title and then went around the border with some Stickles glitter.

The opening act was Dhani Harrison and we were hoping that he would sing some of his father’s songs but he did not.Ā  The performance he did with Jeff Lynne, Tom Petty and Prince of “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” is just fantastic and that would have been our pick.Ā  He does look like his dad, although I had a hard time getting a good picture without the microphone in front of his face!Ā  He did come out during Jeff Lynne’s set and sing a song from the Traveling Wilbury’s, “Handle With Care.”

I decided to use this punch to trim the edges of the pictures.Ā  I think it carries the theme of the light show with the color of the papers showing through.

I used a lot of Dazzles stickers and some paper accents to finish up the pages.

Check out those flying drumsticks!

Although sometimes it is a sad one, I do agree that life is a song to be sung.

The light show was absolutely amazing and the colors were gorgeous.
I put some beaded bling across the top of this page.Ā  It’s hard to tell but it is purple and green.Ā  See how the lights kind of look like bubbles to match the punched corners?

I thought this flowered gem went great on this page.

The tickets were on our phones so I took a screenshot of it.Ā  Since it has the time, 8:40 PM, that was another way to document the night.Ā  I even did a printout of the seating chart.Ā  I put a little blue line where our seats were in Section 1.

Definitely went into my bling stash a lot.Ā  That’s another benefit, I guess, of not being able to go shopping during this time.Ā  I am using a lot of supplies that I have had around for a long time.

I like this stencil of the musical notes and I am trying to put something different in each layout so I used it here.
Came out pretty good, don’t you think?

Bonus is that the page itself has some smudgy images so if I had made a mistake with the stencil you probably wouldn’t be able to tell!Ā  (I didn’t!)

Even though I don’t always like my own handwriting, I wrote the setlist out.Ā  I’m okay with it.

Managed to get them taking their bow and used some washi tape under it.

Here are the spreads as they look in the album.

There is a bit of the light show from “Shine a Little Love” on my blogger siteĀ  but it won’t work here.Ā  I have seen them give a warning to people who might be affected by flashing lights such as epileptics so if that might be you, don’t watch please.Ā  I wouldn’t want to be responsible for anyone passing out.

Here is “Telephone Line.”

All music rights to Jeff Lynne and ELO of course.
It was a great show!Ā  And so we begin our second week of the A to Z.Ā  Are you having fun?Ā  Have you seen ELO?Ā  Do flashing lights bother you?Ā  See you tomorrow with “F.”

About April – 2020 – Escapist Coloring Club

With the virus keeping everyone inside I’ve seen a lot of creative endeavors popping up all over.  Linda has invited us again to participate in the Escapist Coloring Club.  I’ve been watching movies with the hubby and that is my favorite time to color.  Here are a couple of the ones I’ve done in the last few days.

If you are coloring more too, share!

A to Z Challenge – 2020 – Daughtry

“D” is for Daughtry.  He is one of my new favorites, although the first time we saw him was in 2008 as the opening act for Bon Jovi, the band I used for “B” in 2017.  I knew he had been on “America’s Got Talent” but I never watched that so I wasn’t really familiar with him.  I only had a couple of pictures from that show and our seats were farther away so they are not the best.

The next time we saw Daughtry was nine years later and he was again an opening act, this time for Nickelback.  These pictures were better and I found some great paper to use.  Again from Paper Wishes but I can’t remember the name of the collection.  I took all the papers out of the packaging and just have them on the shelf.

I think the colors match our clothes so well.  We went with our friend, Lois, and her son but they were in the row ahead of us and to the side a bit.  I remembered to take a picture of the marquee on the way out.  Usually I get one on the way in but I think it looks cooler at night.  I’m using that as the title.

I had picked up this template at one of the Scrapbook Expos.  I am so sad they had to cancel the Expo this year.  I had been on a scrapbook spending freeze so I could shop there and I’m having a bit of withdrawal symptoms.  The backing paper matched the colors on the other page so I left it.

It was easy just to slide the pictures in and I added some sparkly to the notes.

I had this stamp and it reminded me of the flower on the first page.  I stamped it on pink paper and then used a pen to color in the notes.

Kinda looks like it, don’t you think?

Time for another stencil, this one is Beach Umbrella from Lea France.

I put the Set List in the middle.  He has quite a few new songs but also sang some old ones.  “Backbone” is a great one.  I added some black triangles around the frame to complete the design.

I used blue and red triangles around the outside to fill this one in and make it match the paisley print on the page before.

Here is the finished product as it is in the album.

We’ve seen Daughtry two other times recently and I have much better pictures but I’m trying to fill the albums in order as best I can.  I know I’m going to have some empty pages to fill between some of these and I’m trying to figure out what to do with them.  Maybe I’ll put a page in about the different venues we’ve been to.
That’s it for “D.”  Make sure to stop by some of the other A to Z-ers and come back Monday for “E.”  Can you guess who it might be?

A to Z Challenge – 2020 – Clapton

We are going back in time for the letter “C,” – 2007 to be exact.  It was early in our concert going days and I was so excited to see that Eric Clapton was coming to the HP Pavilion (now SAP Center) in San Jose.  I should have paid a little more attention to who his opening act was though as it turned out to be a blues singer, Robert Cray, which meant that the whole show was going to have a bluesy feel rather than the rock and roll we were looking for.  Lesson learned on this one!

Just as it was early in our concert going days, it was early in my scrapbooking days too so I didn’t have as many embellishments or tools.  We also didn’t take our “selfie” which is now pretty much a staple at every show.

I do have the “tickets” so we have the info of who, what, where and when.

Also, these pages have been scrapbooked already so I don’t have the detailed examples of what I did and how I put them together.  Mostly I just fit the pictures on the page.  I think the title is my favorite part.  There are no extra embellishments or anything.
The pictures I got from the show weren’t that great either because I had an older camera that didn’t have as good a zoom as the one I have now.  I do have the setlist though.  I didn’t know very many of the songs.

The people sitting a couple of rows in front of us were up and moving through the whole show.  Obviously they like the blues!
As you can see by the newspaper clippings, Eric Clapton really didn’t do much in the way of playing or singing himself.  He frequently would just play a bit of the song’s intro and then step back to let his band play the rest.  “He seemed bored.”

Although I did hear a few songs of Robert Cray’s that I like (“Bad Influence” and “Guess I Showed Her”) and Eric did sing “Wonderful Tonight” and “Layla,” we do not consider this as one of our top 10 concerts.

I might consider seeing him again but a lot would depend on who the opening act is and what the set list looks like.  I think it was after this show that I started looking on Setlist.com before each concert.  We didn’t want to be fooled again.

There are only 3 pages for the whole thing and this is how they look in the album.  I’m pretty sure I didn’t want to spend too much time on it.

As if I needed something else to make this a less than favorable memory, while I was going through the album to take the pages out for this post it broke!  I had to move everything to another album. Thank goodness I had an extra one or I’d really be mad.

What do you think of our first few days of the A to Z?  Are you finding some new blogs to follow?  Come back tomorrow for “D.”  It’s a much better show!
